Got Tagged

Fourth picture in my fourth folder:

Hayley with Grandpa Dame at his birthday party at Spaghetti Factory. Hayley was ten months old. Below is the shot I was actually going for:

And one more from that folder that I think is super cute:

Good thing I'm having another baby, or looking at these pictures would have made me kind of sad. Anyone who hasn't done this yet, feel free. It's kind of fun to see what's in your archives.

By the Numbers

8: Number of hours outside of school it took to get ready for Parent Teacher Conferences

2: Number of 12 hour days I have this week (a.k.a. number of days I will have to wear makeup)

30: Number of conferences scheduled in the next two days

3: Number of parents that rescheduled after they had scheduled their own conference (??)

4: Number of loads of laundry in my laundry room waiting to be done

1: Number of pairs of regular jeans I have that still fit

18 1/2: Number of weeks pregnant (I'm counting it as halfway, since Hayley popped out at 37 weeks.)

7: Number of hours of sleep I hope to get tonight (It'll be a bonus if no one has to get up to go to the bathroom. And I'm not just talking about the three year old.)

9: Number of days it's been since I shaved my legs last (I may go all out for conferences though)

3: Number of times Jeremy has told Hayley to get back in bed while I've posted this

3: Also the number of times I've pretended like I didn't hear him

5: Number of hugs Hayley will probably need before actually going to sleep tonight

Disney on Ice

This last weekend, my mom and I took Hayley to Disney on Ice. Neither of the hubbies wanted to go. I really wanted to take her, because it is one of the things that I can remember vividly from my own childhood. It was a ton of fun. We started out with a ride on the Trax train to get uptown:

It was definately a hit! Hayley had never been on the train, but we had watched it pass by during traffic a few times. She really thought it was cool to actually be on the train.

Then on to the Delta Center where we got this cute photo of the three of us: (Or the five of us if you count the mice. Or the six of us if you count the fetus.)

Hayley then picked out a treat/souvineer of a ($10.00!!) snowcone in a Minnie Mouse mug, and we headed to our seats. The show was great, as expected. Hayley loved Minnie and Mickey and the Little Mermaid, but had never seen Peter Pan, and was amazed by the flying people and scared of the huge crocodile, especially when it ate Captain Hook.

At intermission, Hayley first asked for another snow cone. To which the answer was, "Not for ten bucks." Then she saw another kid with a Flounder hat. She told me she wanted one, and I told her, "No, you already got a souvineer." To which she replied, "Then let's just take my Minnie mug back, and they will give me a Flounder hat." I told her no again, that we can't do that. So, at this point she started to hit up Grandma Heidi, who decided that Hayley needed a souvineer from Mom and one from Grandma. Obviously, Hayley liked it.

I have to keep remembering something that I heard somewhere, or maybe I just made it up: "There's a difference between being spoiled and being spoiled rotten." Good thing, or I'd be in trouble! What a fun day!

Honest Crap...

Okay, okay. Really it's called Honest SCRAP, but I caught your attention, didn't I? I got tagged by Amanda to tell some Honest Scrap about myself.

Here's the rules:

A. First list 10 honest things about yourself--and make it interesting even if you have to dig deep.

B. Pass the award on to 7 bloggers that you feel embody the spirit of Honest Scrap...

1. I'm not crafty. I'm really not. If there's craft stuff and a craft to be made, I'll do it. And it will usually turn out cute, but it is not a relaxing experience for me. Honestly, it kind of stresses me out. This may be the reason that I have boxes of unused scrapbook stuff, and yet all of my photos go into no-stress slide-the-picture-in photo albums.

2. Sometimes I really miss being single. Don't get me wrong, I love my husband and my kid and my life, but sometimes I miss not having to be responsible for anyone but myself. Part of this may come from living all by myself in my own apartment for a couple of years before getting married, and partly that I'm just an independent person.

3. I hold grudges too well. To the point that I have let important friendships fall away. It's a problem. I'm working on it.

4. I wish I would have had more self confidence in high school. I feel like I short-changed myself by being too scared to make more of an effort. There are people that I wish I would have been better friends with or to, and people that I never approached that I really think I would have hit it off with.

5. I have an addiction to Disneyland. I'm not kidding. Especially now that Hayley has been there and loved it, I'm constantly planning a time that we could go next. Jeremy thinks I'm a little crazy, but I love the atomsphere, and the feelings, and the memories that it brings back for me.

6. Even when it gets to the point where it's an option, I don't know if I ever want to be a stay-at-home mom. At least not every single day. I could surely see myself working part-time, but I just don't know if I could be home all day every day.

7. I love cold pizza. It is hands down my favorite thing to eat for breakfast. I've been known to cook a pizza, and not eat any of it before it has sat in the fridge for a few hours. This weirdness also extends to pretty much all Italian food. Spaghetti, lasagna, fettucine alfredo, I love them cold.

8. I have clothes in my closet that haven't fit since high school. I just can't get rid of them. I feel like it would be admiting defeat. If they ever fit again, they will be seriously out of style. And I will probably wear them anyway.

9. I didn't visit my grandfather when he was dying. Lots of people told me I would regret it. I don't. I like that my last memories of him are of the two of us sitting on the couch, laughing and sharing experiences, and him asking about my life, and him actually remembering it the next day.

10. I enjoy blogging a whole lot more than I thought I would. I think it's that I enjoy writing in general, and this gives me a fun reason to write about whatever I care to. Even if no one reads it, I like that my creative juices are flowing. I like having an outlet. Plus, it makes me feel less guilty that I suck at keeping a journal.

I'd love to hear some Honest Scrap from these people... (Consider yourself tagged!)

More Hayley funnies...

While opening birthday presents, Hayley started opening one that was obviously a DVD. I say obviously because by the shape of it, even the three year old knew what it was. Before she even had it open, she yelled, "I think we got a movie here!" Great. It was even wrapped in real wrapping paper, not just thrown in a gift bag, which is the extent of my usual wrapping expertise.

We got food from Wendy's and laid Hayley's out in front of her. Burger, oranges, chocolate milk, a couple of Mom's fries, and one of Daddy's chicken nuggets. To which Hayley's reply was, "Now that's what I'm talking about!"

Hayley always thinks she's hungry, even when she's not. One day, right after lunch, she tried to tell us that she was hungry. I told her, "No, you're not. You just ate." "But my tummy is hungry!" "No, it's not." "Well then my leg is hungry!" Because maybe if you change the body part, Mom will give in. (I didn't.)

After finding a piece of trash in my car, Hayley handed it to Grandma Heidi with strict instructions to, "Throw this away in a very special garbage can." Because you know, sometimes a regular garbage can is just not good enough.

Hayley still thinks she is the boss around our house. In fact, if you ask her she will tell you that she is the boss. When she tells Jeremy to do things, often his response is, "Whatever!" Which used to just make Hayley giggle, but now when we ask her to do something that's what we get back: "Whatever!" "Hayley, will you go get your shoes on?" "Whatever, Mom!" The best is when it's in public, and I get that totally incredulous look from some stranger. Yes, my child can be a total sassy frass.

If you don't get "Whatever!" after your request, another frequent Hayley response is, "I just don't have time for that today." Apparently, life is very busy when you're three.

This is not a drill.

Today at about 10:00 a.m. we had an announcement at our school that no teacher wants to hear, "We are going into lockdown. This is NOT a drill." Holy crap! The more scary part was that for the first half hour, we didn't know if the threat to cause the lockdown was inside our school, or outside the school in the neighborhood. Turns out there was a sucidal, possibly armed (he wasn't) man in the area and the police were trying to track him down. Things turned out fine and everyone was safe, but it was a pretty scary situation. We were the first school to be put into lockdown, and by the time they apprehended the guy at about 11:20, there were seven other surrounding schools in lockdown also.

After determining that there was not a threat directly within our school, both my students and I breathed a sigh of relief, and then about half of them realized they needed to go to the bathroom. Funny how many more kids have an "emergency" when it is actually unsafe to go out of the classroom. (Because getting to the bathrooms would require students to pass by glass doors to outside, which had not been determined safe.) The upside is that no one in my classroom peed their pants. If you ask my students, the upside may have been that they got to watch two hours of Dr. Suess movies today.

Oh, yeah. Happy Birthday Dr. Suess. Sorry that more pressing matters took over your day at Jordan Hills.

The story as posted on ksl.com.

P.S. I was slightly reprimanded for being on the internet while I should have been "consoling kids." Dude, I wanted to know what was happening too! If only they knew that I was also texting the teacher down the hall with my own personal cell phone, which was on during school hours. He he. I didn't fess up to that one.
